Suzanne:
Thanks so much for the info. However I could not find an address for a Hall of Records or a Roman Catholic church in the village to write to for information. The family name I am looking for is Reiter, at least that is what is written in Ellis Island.
You have been such a great help. I would love to purchase the HVF but my husband and I are currently out of work and we just do not have the funds. But I am asking for it from other family members for Christmas - we will see.
Thank you so very much,
Mary Smith

I am trying to locate information on my Mother & Grandmother. According to my birth certificate and the ship's manifest, my Mother was born in a town called Csukas, Romania in 1915. They came to the United States in 1920.
I cannot find this town on any map of Romania. Could it have another name today?
I have hit a wall and need help.
Thank You in advance for any help you may have for me,
Mary Smith

After searching for many years for the villages my ancestors came from in 1902 and 1903 and not finding them, I finally sent a message to Hungarian Village Finder asking for some suggestions or help. That same day I got a reply from Suzanne requesting a little more information than I originally sent. I also attached two documents that no one, not even our Hungarian speaking friends, could make sense of the town names. Within the hour, I got another email from Suzanne. I could not believe my eyes when she wrote back and had solved not just one village mystery but both of them! She also included information about church records and current names and locations of both towns and some links on the internet for me to go to to learn more about these places. It was an incredible feeling to finally know where my great-grandparents came from.

While Suzanne never once tried to sell me the Hungarian Village Finder, I bought it anyway. First because I thought it was the least I could do for all her help (free of charge I might add) and second because I was hopeful that it would help me with some other town names that some of my friends and I have been looking for. I got the CD four days after ordering it and at our annual 4th of July barbecue, sat at my computer with 6 of my fellow researchers. What an amazing afternoon that turned out to be for all of us. EVERYONE found something or someplace on this CD. You cannot imagine how incredible this was for all of us.

I just cannot believe that after spending hundreds of dollars and years of hunting for two places, Suzanne had them on her Hungarian Village Finder all along. I know "dummkoff" isn't Hungarian but that's what I keep calling myself.

So a huge THANK YOU Suzanne for all your help and your work. I will happily recommend your Hungarian Village Finder to anyone who is researching in this area.

I am trying to locate a family member that stayed in Hungary to take care his mother and father, while his 4 sisters ventured of to the United States of America. The travel time to the states was between 1889 and 1906. The surname of this family is DACZKO. George Daczko (son-born after 1892 in a suburb of Ruszkocz: Berezna Vaarmegyl) stayed in Hungary to take care of his parents: Johnush and Maria (Sztegura) DACZKO. The only other bit of information I have is that he married and has children, and his parents were buried in the town where he was born. I'm presently trying to find any "living" children of George Daczko for a lawyer in New York. A 1st cousin passed away, and her will notes to contact any LIVING 1st COUSINS. I mentioned George Daczko to the lawyer but I had nothing further to give him. I'm not very good on the computer(just typing) and I came across this sight by mistake - so I'm hopeful that you can help me or steer me in the right direction! Please someone contact me as soon as possible! Should I purchase this disk? Waiting to hear from you------------Carol Holmes

Dear Sir/Madam. I am in the process of making a complete chart of my family, von Puteani. I have been tracing the beginning to Holland(Eryci Puteani), then Bohemia and Hungary. I am now trying to find out more of where they actually lived, the castles, mansions etc. The searchword Fajzat let me to your page. My great grand mother's name was Maria Scultety von Szoppor, who I believe came from Fajzat. I believe the castle I have on my wall is from there. I am very curious to find out and will be buying your CD rom to find out more. All my relatives moved around in the Austro-Hungarian empire, so this is indeed interesting research. As I acquire family birth/marriage/death placenames, I instictivly go to HVF and locate the district & county and write them into my genealogy "Ancestral Quest" database program. I am looking for a village that I have have been told is my family name of BUGAN. Also, I believe the town of Zilina, S.R. (Bytca region), is where my gramdmother named Zofia Susan SMEHIL is from. Her parents are Mary HOLES and Joseph Smehil. Are orphanages of this area shown? Zofia was orphaned young. My Grandfather (BUGAN) is listed as coming from VICOV, Austria about 1910. Have other surname of ZAJAC. (may be Moravian) Will the software tell the villages where people of these names may have originated? Other names of ancestors that are cousins to the BUGAN family are SLADEK and ANDRESIK. A name that I have is (Zorton) Martinus Edward Bugan (Andrasek ), if I have right spelling. Will this software tell me if my family name of Bugan is indeed that of a village? My big dream is to find the parents of my great grandfather Stephanus Bugan. I have searched for years. I am told I am of Slovak descent with possible touch of Polish somewhere in there.

Thanks for the marvellous program. I have only had a chance to have a quick look at it since downloading, but I must congratulate you. It is excellent and very easy to navigate. I have not bought it for genealogical purposes but as a huge mine of information on the changing political geography of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is especially valuable to a philatelist of that area who needs to know what the names of the villages were and where they are now in the modern states. I shall recommend it to the Austrian Philatelic Society.

But surprise, surprise, yesterday was my birthday and sure enough, there was my Hungarian Village Finder CD all wrapped up in Christmas paper. After I found the towns I was looking for, two of which I had not been able to find until now, I spent the majority of the rest of the night eating cake and exploring this INCREDIBLE program. Turning 60 is not so bad when you've got kids who love you, a computer and programs like this to help tear down those brick walls and get going again.

I had been looking for such a source for years! It's great for geneology, and also for researching and teaching the history of East Central Europe

Your website is great but your software is awesome! Took me two minutes to download the whole program and then about 6 minutes to locate three towns, two that I have been searching for for several years. I recommend this to anyone who is researching their German family history from the Austro-Hungarian era.

This CD  has been a huge help. I'm excited to say I found not one but two of my ancestral villages, both within minutes! It was that easy. I can't get over the amount and quality of the information. I particularly appreciated the Hungarian pronunciation aids. The site hostess truely is a friend to the Hungarian geneology researcher.
